Magnificent Seven and The Seven Samurai These two movies where greatly different, both movies were good but of the two i liked the Seven Samurai best. These 2 movies were very different in length too, the Seven Samurai was two tapes long and full of details and long establishing shots, The Magnificent Seven was only one tape and many things were cut out of it that weren't in the original it was still good but it wasn't as good as the Seven Samurai. Some of the visual difference and similarities were, they people in Magnificent Seven used guns, and the people in Seven Samurai used swords, they gathered a gun or two and all the towns people used poles carved with a sharp tip in the front. For every character in Seven Samurai there was a character alike or similar character in Magnificent Seven such as the drunk guy and the guy that was good with the sword. The little Mexicans in Magnificent Seven actually had money to give to the gunmen where as the towns people in Seven Samurai only had rice to feed the samurai. Also in the finally battle against the bandits, it rained in Seven Samurai but in Magnificent Seven it was just a normal sunny day. I think that Akira Kurawsawa put a lot more time into his film trying to get it exactly the way he wanted it to he put more visual emotion, like the scene with the fire, or the flag, he used a lot of kinetic motion to set the emotion or give some sort of feeling to the viewer. He used many types of camera shots or establishing shots too, to give the viewer a better knowing of where you are and what all is going on, and also used a lot of long periods of silence, its not as noticeably in Seven Samurai as it was in Rashomon. He also added more to the find scenes they were a lot longer and in my opinion better. He also added more to the story about the girl-guy he made her more of an important character, than the girl that was in Magnificent Seven. Then on the re-make it was very close to the original but a whole lot shorter, they kind of made a summary of it and got to the point quicker the Akira, but it was still a good movie. This guy didn't really use any of the techniques that Akira did just did his own thing. I don't think they had any techniques that really stood out in the Magnificent Seven everything just kind of seemed the same as all the others. He did fallow the original story line well, in most movie re-makes the director goes way off and the movie just turns out a big flop. The reason i like the Seven Samurai better was because the Japanese films are always done well, especially fight scenes even though this was an older film before all the new technology he found away around it so it would look good and done too incredibly fake, because i noticed when the had fight scenes they would zoom out so they didn't have to get all technical with blood and things like that. So overall both movies were good and turned out to be successful.
